Situated in the Western Cape, the Keurbooms River is one of the best preserved rivers in South Africa and boasts a healthy and vibrant eco system. It makes for an epic swim destination in beautifully okra coloured water.

Named after the Western keurboom tree, the reserve is a sanctuary for indigenous trees, including the Cape beech, giant stinkwoods and the beautiful Outeniqua yellowwoods. A lush destination filled with an abundance of plant life, parts of the reserve can be seen while swimming. Bird watching is also a very popular activity. Look out for the quirky vervet monkey, the shy blue duiker, beautiful grysbok and mongoose. Those patient and lucky enough could even spot the elusive leopard…yes he’s been spotted drinking from the river. The many bird species provide a musical background to the lush surroundings, with contributions from the Knysna loerie, giant kingfisher, Knysna woodpecker, sunbirds, yellow-billed ducks and more.

The swim starts from in front of the chalets at Forever Resorts and finishes upriver at Whiskey Creek beach. After a picnic lunch on the beach, a river barge will retrace the swim route and ferry swimmers back to the start. On the adventure back, a knowledgable guide will share information of the river and the surrounding indigenous vegetation. A true privilege and one of the many highlights of the day.

Saturday evening is to be enjoyed around the ‘post-swim-fire’ back at the resort and is a great opportunity to share your experience with your fellow swimmers.

The package includes accommodation at Forever Resorts riverside chalets (Friday and Saturday night on a shared basis), A welcome dinner on arrival, get to meet fellow swimmers in a social setting. Swim guidance, safety and sustenance, a barge picnic post swim and informative ferry ride back to the start. Swimmers will also receive a commemorative gift in celebration of the swim.

The units are self-catering. We have 5 units that sleep a total of 6 people (swimmers or non-swimmers). The units are mixed sex units with limited double bed options. Each chalet consists of a double bed and bunk beds in the other rooms. First come first serve.

For Saturday night, we will do our legendary veggie potjie and some side dishes – bring a tjopie or steak for the fire if you like. We have limited use of kayaks for seconds or non-swimmers to join in the fun.

Limited places are on offer for this unique swim excursion.

The 2023 Blu Smooth Keurbooms Meander will take place on Saturday the 11 of November 2023. Swimmers and guest can however book into river front chalets at Forever Resorts from 14:00 Friday. On Sunday we will have a secret 3km optional swim available before departure.

We do have access to stand-up paddle boards and limited kayak rentals for seconds who want to accompany swimmers.

Further and final details regarding directions, swim start times, what to bring, etc will be communicated closer to the time.
